Form and Senses
I learned to use form and senses in drawing class. The thing that was most important was the form of your project, the way it looks. I personally think I can make something beautiful that people actually like and want to have. I sold a few of my paintings so people liked what I made. This is why I think I am at the awareness level now.
The book sketching the basics taught to more about how to visualize my ideas and to transfer this to my group members. This is very useful because the rest of the group can follow my thoughts more easily and that creates more clarity. I am still in an awareness state but I also learned very much. I also attended the workshop product photography that taught me to how to represent the product visualize the product that I can design in the future.
A part of this competency that I did not really develop yet is the senses part. In our project we did not do much research to the sense part of our folding bike. We chose the materials that were the most practical but we did not pay much attention to the feeling of the bike. This is something that I could take into account for the future projects.
'Be more ‘free’ with the use of the material. Explore the possibilities of the material rather than focusing on the limitations.' Coach: Janine Huizenga
As a designer I really want to improve myself as it comes to making sketches. I think this is an important aspect of designer that he/she can really express themselves and also explain themselves through sketching. I used some of the knowledge from the book sketching the basics to make some of my sketches. The next time there is an opportunity to do an assignment with sketching I am definitely trying to subscribe.
‘Make more and bigger sketches, you have the skills to do that. As a designer you are supposed to work visually to make things simple and easy to understand.’ Coach: Jeroen Thoolen
A thing that I started to do this study for is building things. I am passionate about making things and working with my hands. The GMIS project was a really good project and I enjoyed it very much to work on this project.
‘This is your 'thing'. You love making and are good at it. If you manage to start in time you are well able to create nice designs.’ Coach: Jeroen Thoolen
