Past
Since I was little I always have been busy taking objects apart to look how they were made or just create new things out of the separate parts. I played with Lego and Legotechnic and I was always trying to make new things out of objects that I saw in the guidebooks. It always was a big challenge to create something, because most of the times my brother and I got stuck in our project and you had to start again. This rethinking your project has a lot of similarities with my experiences as a beginning ID student. There are lots of times when you do not know what to do and just start at the beginning. So I could say that I am already a little bit familiar with this concept.
My grandfather had a carpenter company and I learned a lot from him. He thought me use all kinds of tools and I learnt how to solve things the way he was taught when he was a young apprentice. He is 87 now so he can’t do all the work by himself anymore. Every once in a while I visit him and we build something together. For example, we worked together on a new front gate for which my grandfather made the design and collected all the materials, and which I constructed. This is one of the many projects that we did together and I know that these building skills will come in handy during my time at the TU/e.
