Milano trip

This journey gave me a peek into the world of design. We went a design studio were new products were exposed from designers as Philippe Starck and Peugeot. What inspired really was the design of a music system that looked like a mirror. This could be controlled hand movements under the mirror. You could also use you phone to change the music and the product is sort of a competitor of Sonos. I liked the clever design and that the product has a sort of secret identity. It looks like a mirror but is actually a music system. The product worked with Arduino so I really felt like it is a product that even I could make.

The thing that occurred to me when I visited all the different design stands and exhibitions was that people there was a big difference between the design that we do on the TUe and the design I saw in Milan. The design in Milan was much more focusses on the aesthetics as here in Eindhoven the function has most of the times the overhand. As much as I like aesthetics, I would like my product to be functional and thoughtfully made.

The products that were very much visited on the exhibitions were often interactive products and clever solutions. Like a design were someone made a whole kitchen in the size of an average refrigerator. This caught people’s attention and also my attention. This is what I like, things that are solved in a way that I and nobody else thought of before and think by themselves; why did I not think of this.
